The development of seismotectonic studies on the Friuli Venezia Giulia region before and following the 1976 Friuli earthquake

The paper presents an overview of the history of oil drilling, carried out to investigate the deep tectonic structure of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, up until a modern interpretation of the deep structural style obtained from the data of the Bernadia well. Many studies following the earthquakes of 1976 have led to the formulation of a seismotectonic model and the identification of the seismogenic structures in the study region.
